The comeback town

Mexico Beach took Hurricane Michael nearly head-on in October 2018. What has grown back is unlike anywhere else on this coast: a small Gulf-front town on US-98 where new construction is part of daily life, the pier's replacement is funded and moving toward construction, and the rentals are houses — not high-rise towers. Travelers who book here choose that on purpose: a driveway and a grill, a canal out back, sand a short walk from the porch.
